Lichens

A symbiosis between a fungus and an alga or cyanobacterium.

On this rock are two of the main growth forms of lichens:

  1. foliose – flat, leaf-like lobes that are not firmly bonded to the substrate;

  2. crustose – crust-like, closely bound to the substrate.

Moss

Moss are small flowerless plants.

Moss forms dense green clumps.

Often found on rocks and boulders where they can survive desiccation, regreening after rain.
